Sciatica

Pain that travels has a starting point.

Sciatica runs down the leg, but it starts higher. The work is finding where the nerve is being irritated, not chasing the pain along its path.

What sciatica is

The sciatic nerve runs from your lower back through the hip and down the leg. When something irritates it along the way, a disc, a stiff joint, a tight muscle deep in the hip, you can feel shooting pain, pins and needles or numbness anywhere on that line. The place it hurts most is rarely the place it starts.

Finding the source

Our assessment tests your lower back level by level, examines the hip and pelvis, and follows the symptom pattern to narrow down where the irritation sits. You watch the readings with us, and we explain what they mean before any treatment starts.

Treating it

Care aims to restore movement at the segments involved and reduce the mechanical pressure on the nerve: gentle, specific adjustments, instrument-guided where precision matters, with re-testing on later visits so the change is measured rather than assumed. Sciatica often asks for more patience than ordinary back pain, and the first assessment gives you a realistic picture of what is involved.

Common stories we hear

“It shoots from my hip all the way down to my calf.”

“Sitting is fine for a while, then the leg takes over.”

“My foot keeps going pins and needles for no reason.”

“I stretch my hamstring every day and it changes nothing.”

Go straight to a doctor if leg symptoms come with numbness in the saddle area, loss of bladder or bowel control, or rapidly progressing weakness in the leg. Those are urgent medical signs, not chiropractic ones.
